“won't you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.” -Lucille Clifton (1993)
Session Description:
How do we balance our duty to ‘reflect the times’ through revolutionary imagination? As cultural workers, we balance the practical and magical, how do we find harmony and catch the rhythm when it feels the times are cacophonous and demanding?
This dialogue brings together Black art workers to discuss the ways we continue the Black Radical Tradition of sustaining our chorus--the common collective song necessary to incite transformation, mutual aid, and revolution. We create a space for building horizons against scarcity, exploitation, and grief and inviting in ease, joy and nurture.
Curated by Shannon Joy Shird.
